Beginning of Week 5 Has Begun! Pictures, Reconstruction, Summarizing, and More!

Hello Everyone,

I hope everyone had a fantastic Labor Day Weekend! It has been awhile since my last post and I wanted to update everyone about what is going on in my classroom. Everyone looked so wonderrful today for pictures. I have been able to replace the wonderful images I have of 5th grade students after recess with images of very pleasant, well-dressed students like I saw today. We have completed our unit on the Civil War for Social Studies and this week we are moving onto Reconstruction in the U.S. I was very impressed by how well my students did on the test last week. This week we will be reviewing interjections, which we learned last week, and also honing our summarizing skills.  I assigned a homework packet this week. The packet includes the vocabulary for the vocabulary quiz as well as more practice on interjections and summarizing. Students will be defining the S.S vocabulary words for homework and it will be due Friday. I took my classes to the library today to determine their Fountas and Pinnell levels as well as find possible books they can use for their book projects. They are due at the end of the month, so please continue to work on them at home! We will not be spending extra time working on this book project in class. I can't wait to see all the finished results! Tomorrow we will be completing the STAR test during our class time. The STAR test, along with the Fountas and Pinnell levels, help give myself an idea about how well students are strengthening their reading skills. Conferences are coming up later this month. The only mandatory conferences I have are for my Block 1 parents, however I can see if I can squeeze in extra time for conferences with other parents or schedule phone conferences. Have a great Tuesday!
