Year 2 BFES Introduction

Good Afternoon!

My name is Ms. Ryan and I am so excited to continue being apart of the Birmingham Falls family this year! This is my second year at BFES. I learned so much last year, and I know this upcoming year is going to be even more incredible. There are a few new changes in 5th grade this year. I will be teaching all subjects, which is a different experience from last year when I was only teaching Humanities. This opportunity will allow me to have a more personal interaction with my students, as well as their parents. I am a goal-oriented teacher, so my first goal is to learn everyone's name by day 2. Last year my goal was by day 3, which was too easy. I learned long ago the best impression I can make to my students on the first few days of school was to learn their names. I know some students and parents will visit this blog after speaking to me in order to learn more about me and where I come from. First, I have two dogs (technically my parent's dogs). The one is the red bandana is Denali and the one in the blue bandana is Glacier. I love them tremendously and they are irresistible! I talk about them a lot during our Lucy Calkins time because they are apart of many small moments in my life. Second, I am originally from New Jersey, however I completed high school at Roswell High School. I completed my bachelor's degree at the College of Charleston and my master's degree from the University of Georgia. Third, I spent some time working at Haynes Bridge Middle School where I taught 6th and 7th grade Reading for the 2014-2015 school year. This job gave me an opportunity to enlighten my 5th grade students and parents about the expectations for middle school. Lastly, I am recently engaged, so not only will I be planning for school but also for a wedding next June.

This school year is crucial for student success in middle school as well as their future. I believe in teaching students beyond the standards. I want to ensure all students leave my classroom with skills that help them become even better versions of themselves. Three things your child will undoubtedly learn this school year is
1) Accountability
2) Time Management
3) Personal Responsibility

My expectations this year are....
1) To make it the best elementary school year yet and prepare every student for middle school!
2) To ensure every student feels smart throughout the school year.
3) To strengthen all aspects of your learning!
4) To read various texts and make connections!
5) To learn about crucial parts of history that influences our lives today.

See you soon!

Ms. Ryan
